There will still be another video for a rough alignment and camber adjustment, but I learned some things about the Colt strut along the way that some DSMers might want to know. If you think the front end of your DSM sits too high, or considering lowering your front end, the Colt front strut has 3/8" more shock travel than a DSM strut, and is around an inch and a quarter drop if the springs and everything else stay the same. It looks like the Expo/Summit wagon knuckles are the magic part that ties this swap all together. Whether they're left 4-lug or converted to 5-lug, they fit the turbo DSM axles. They eliminate captive rotors, grease cups and fit all the turbo DSM stuff while eliminating the bump steer issues by straightening out the steering assembly. More research about the benefits of reducing bump steer can be found here: www.4g61t.org Brake options are wide open because of the number of Mitsubishis that share the same bolt pattern for the caliper brackets. The depth of the caliper varies on some models, so it's important to be using the whole brake system, and then checking the wheels for clearance over the calipers. Both my wheels and brakes came from a 1992 AWD Eclipse, and they're a perfect fit.

No, the train doesn't come right away, but pretend you're tied to the tracks like an old-time silent movie heroine, and you can only see what the camera sees ---- listen to all the SOUNDS, vibrations, horn, wind, engine acceleration, engine inching closer, etc., etc., knowing that this may be the last 3 minutes of your life! Make it an exercise in boosting your sense of hearing to the max to take in everything you possibly can! Good headphones REALLY help! BIG TIME!! I found a fairly remote railroad crossing where I figured I could get a shot that I've always wanted to get on video. I did absolutely nothing to endanger the train or myself. I simply leaned my tiny 4 ounce HD video camera up against the wood ties that were used to create the vehicle crossing. My camera was a full three inches below the top of the ties, so I knew with 100% certainty that the camera was out of the train's way AND harms way. Gave me peace of mind and a good place to rest the camera. I had no way of knowing for certain what view the camera had because I didn't want to spend a lot of time setting it up, and it was very sunny, bright and hot. It actually turned out almost exactly the way I wanted. The video cuts off abruptly because, dumb me -- the camera ran out of battery power. I still got everything I really wanted. The clearance under the engines looks truly claustrophobic!! I keep wanting to duck my head when watching it -- especially on a large TV with the video set on HD ...

A recent slide below a logging railroad on the North Vancouver Island forced it relocation. It had to be moved 16 feet into the high bank. Drilling and blasting was required.. This video is about the the drilling. Notice the steepness of the lower bank and the clearance between the wheel of the rock drill and the end of the railroad ties. Yaks !
